Trey Hawkins
Trey Hawkins is a political professional with over 17 years of experience in campaign and political action committee (PAC) management, fundraising, political communication, grassroots and issue advocacy. He currently serves as Vice President, Political Affairs, for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), where he leads political and grassroots action on behalf of credit union-friendly candidates and issue advocacy campaigns nationwide.
Since joining CUNA in 2005, Trey has grown CUNA’s political program to more than $6 million in expenditures per cycle, including CULAC, CUNA’s $5 million federal PAC, and a $1 million+ National Advocacy Fund. In the most recent 2016 election cycle, CUNA’s voter contact program funded a record $3 million in independent expenditures and direct member communications, winning 9 of 12 targeted races.
Prior to joining CUNA, Trey served as the Louisiana Democratic Party’s Finance Director during the 2003 state and 2004 federal elections, raising over $5.7 million for the party and its candidates and directing overall fundraising strategy for the coordinated campaign efforts that elected a Governor, four of the other five statewide office holders, and a U.S. Congressman. Trey also managed a campaign for Illinois Lieutenant Governor and directed campaign finance strategy for three nationally-targeted U.S. House campaigns in Illinois, Tennessee and Iowa.
A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Trey holds a B.A. in History and American Politics & Policy from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He resides with his wife, three children and chocolate lab in Arlington, Virginia, where his passions include golf, his kids’ youth sports teams, and unhealthy obsessions over SEC football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
